I am a wife, mom, and high school science teacher in the Midwest trying to cook healthy meals and the occasional treat for my family. I grew up in the kitchen with my mom, who taught me how to cook and allowed me to experiment and make messes without judgment. My kids are with me in the kitchen often and I hope they grow to love cooking as much as I do.
This blog is a random collection of recipes and stories. It started as a place to save family recipes, but has morphed into posts about cooking cleaner, healthier, mostly vegetarian meals using more whole grains. It will soon chronicle our adventures of attempting to grow our own organic fruits and vegetables. I love taking cooking classes to learn about new ingredients and techniques and have recently been a regular attender at every organic gardening class I can find.
My greatest challenge in the kitchen is making a meal everyone will eat. I believe in using real ingredients and using whole grains whenever possible. I am mostly vegetarian, my husband eats whatever I make and leans more to the meatless side. My kids sometimes eat meat sometimes don't, and are still skeptical of dark green veggies and foods with strange textures. Dinner is often multiple variations on a theme and photos of dishes on the blog are snapped moments before they are consumed, often with my hungry husband and kids barely out of sight.
I welcome your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks for visiting!
